Annual Spring Council Meeting

On Thursday, March 22nd eight of our Members attended the Annual Spring Council Meeting in Llangollen.
The speakers in the morning were:
Colin Evans - North Wales Deaf Association
Christine Dukes - Income Generation Manager, Llangollen International Eisteddfod
and Helen Carey - Keeping WI Records

Then we had the presentation of the Maesgwyn Cup by Bethan Williams.
The Maesgwyn Cup Competition was to design a poster for a WI event or meeting. There were 13 entries by 10 Women's Institutes.

After lunch, the main speaker was horticulturist and gardener Christine Walkden, who many of you know from TV shows like Christine's Garden, Gardener's World, The One Show and Gardener's Question Time on radio. She gave us an entertaining talk about the " The Life and Times " of Christine Walkden, from the age of ten when she first obtained an allotment and started growing vegetables and flowers,which she sold to her school teachers and neighbours. On leaving school her first job was with a local parks department before going to the Lancashire College of Agriculture. To becoming a TV presenter with her own gardening series " Christine's Garden".

And just a reminder that our next meeting is on Monday, 16th April 2012, it's an open evening and the talk is about skincare and perfume by Boots. We will have a raffle and a sales table and the monthly competition is a perfume bottle.
